Non Resolution about Beginnings

winter1.jpg image by findstuff22

I love New Year’s.  I mean, I love January and the deep breath of forward-looking-ness that comes at the end of the holidays.

I love it, love it, love it.

Many blog friends have been writing about the new year.  Blissfully absent have been resolutions and promises to do better or be better.  Instead I’m finding thoughtful introspections about what it means to go look ahead, to see possibility, and to use the past as a launching pad.

I’d like to share a couple of quotes I found today about new beginnings.

“There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth…not going all the way, and not starting.”  Buddha.

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.” Roman philosopher Seneca.

“There is a woman at the beginning of all great things.” French poet Alphonse de Lamartine.

What are you beginning in 2010?

Everything. Beginning of having all children gone. Beginning of a new career. Returning to living with my husband alone after 25 years. I hope to take them in stride and see the road leads, calmly.

Beautiful!!! I so agree with you, I do not believe in resolutions, I believe in hope, new adventures and new experiences ahead. Always.
I completely love all the quotes as well.
Wishing you a beautiful and prosperous 2010.;)

I really like that quote by Alphonse de Lamartine. Very profound.

2010 will really be a year of new beginnings for me. I can feel it. There is a new job at the horizon in the media, and I hope to get on with studies as well. Also I aim to be more outreaching with regards to both music and photography. But also: to respect my limits and put my own well-being first.

Quite a lot of things, to say the least.

Ah, Sallymandy, now that was nice! I like the first quotation particularly, and should think about putting it up on the wall directly and umiss-ably in front of my desk.

Yes, resolutions are a bit old hat - these are much better. And you must in an exclusive club of the (relatively) few people who really like January!

Thank you everyone, for sharing your new beginnings and these quotations. Love thyself. That's actually my favorite, Saz.

Deborah, I do love January and the end of the holidays, but...well, February's another matter!

I try to approach each day as a new beginning - a chance to find beauty and joy. There are times when that is almost impossible but I keep trying.

New beginnings for me -- a child in college and only one at home. Reading everyday just because I want to. Treating myself with the same care I give others. Goodness, I think I could go on, but you get the picture.

I'm putting the Buddha quote on my wall!

Is it just me - or does that tree look like a ballet dancer - head thrown back - leg stretched back - arms above head?

Dancing into the wind.....

I find all of these quotes very inspiring, sallymandy. ;^)
January 2010 is the 4th anniversary of celebrating my singleness. When I finally broke free, and "cleaned house" in December of '05, it was both a giant leap AND baby steps for me...
Having lived in the shadow of abuse for far too long, I celebrate the freedom every day. Holding my breath and biting my tongue for so many years was far too over-rated (for the sake of "staying together.")
I venture to share these bits to offer hope. Many need it. I know I did...and I will be forever grateful for the nudges forward that evolved into cheers on the sidelines from people who knew what really existed inside of me and what I was capable of.

I don't have any resolutions- I never make any because I just don't want to disappoint myself!
